These government phones will be given to any number of eligible people. So everyone like unemployed youths, disabled people, senior citizens, people suffering from huge mortgages and people who lost their home due to natural calamities and relocated can get this phone. The application and eligibility verification processes are very simple. Literally any person who has an address to receive the mailed phone and is enlisted under any of public assistance programs like food stamps or Medicaid or Housing assistance can apply for the phone.

If you want to apply online, visit the SafeLink Wireless Website. Key in your zip code and check whether your state allows you to participate in the program. If yes, fill the details in the application form like name, age, address and select appropriate check boxes enquiring about the public assistance program enlistments. Give the last four digits of your social security number and submit the application form by clicking on the "I Certify". Click the next button to get an acknowledgement.

An enrollment ID will be given on submission of the application. The applicant can check if their application is accepted or denied using the enrollment ID. The applicant will receive the phone within a week of submitting the application if they are eligible. Certain states require the applicants to attach copies of a letter from the employer, income proof and public assistance program participation proof. If that is the case, the application can be mailed to the SafeLink Office along with the required documents.
