Advice for Golfers This Winter

By Tim Smith

Golfing during the winter months is certainly a gamble, especially in Britain. You could begin the day in glorious sunshine and leave in the pouring rain. It is vital; therefore, that even the most experienced golfers are well equipped to withstand the testing weather conditions out on the course.

However this doesn't mean that winter golf isn't without its challenges. You could begin the day in a ray of sunshine and finish the course in torrential rain, not to mention the many other hazards which can occur on a daily basis including water logged fairways, overgrown rough, temporary greens and strong winds creating a testing environment for even a well equipped golfer.

However there will always be challenges facing all golfers during the winter with water logged fairways, strong winds, overgrown rough and temporary greens to name a few. Yet for golfers who simply wish to carry on all year round here are a few key things to bear in mind and improve your winter game.

How to survive the winter golf season

Improve your game with a golf GPS device - Golf GPS systems are an excellent alternative to having your very own caddie and are particularly effective during the winter months when light and visibility is poor. Golf GPS devices can calculate the distance to any position, including potential hazards on over 5500 course across the UK and Europe.

Try and keep your golf balls dry and warm - Heat your golf balls up on a radiator at home before you leave and try to keep a few in your pocket, swapping after each round. This should ensure your golf balls are kept at optimum temperature, even in the cold air which can cause your ball to harden and compress.

Always have a golf GPS system at hand - Golf GPS devices are an excellent and modern way of improving your overall awareness of the course, giving you the distance to the hole and potential hazards. Golf GPS will become even more vital during the dark, winter months when light and visibility is particularly poor.

Use a golf GPS device to improve your visibility - The colder months will cause you to play under different weather conditions including heavy rain, snowfall and dense fog, causing your visibility to be limited. Golf GPS systems will improve your overall awareness on the freeway as well as calculating distances to any position on over 5500 courses across the UK and Europe.
