And to that the fact that I was able to download the software and begin using it right away and you have a sure winner here! I use for home finances and a very small business and it's more than adequate.
The checking acct balance is never right. Because of the very poor customer support and the step backwards in the user interface, I've downgraded my rating of Quicken 2011 to 3 stars. Hopefully, they will address these issues before the next upgrade. Only one of the linked accounts can be downloaded, whereas the other one needs to be manually downloaded via Bank of America's website. In other words, forget about the one click download.
I just got finished customizing my home screen in the 2011 version, and that helps, but still, I don't like it as much. I owned an older version (2000). As advertised, it does connect reasonably well to my bank account, credit card accounts, and investment accounts. However, I have two complaints. This was recommended by my CPA. Good price and quick shipping equals a solid deal. I wish I'd done it years sooner. Since at least 2002, Intuit has been using Quicken as a pure 'cash cow' - a product to milk revenue out of, but making no investment in it - while it continues to toy around with other new product developments toward future revenue streams. But the overall poor experiences over the last several months are totally unacceptable. I'll be looking for other financial management software effective immediately. My hope is that keeping up with Quicken will simplify things come tax time, but that of course remains to be seen. I'll probably still need to hire an accountant to get my head around most things, where I'd hoped Quicken would help me cut out the middleman.
I'd estimate my financial and business needs to be about 7 out of 10 in complexity and I'm no financial wizard. It was a good solid weekend project for me and after a month, it's beginning to look like an old familiar face when I open it up.
I bought Quicken Home & Business 2011 mostly to use for tracking my business expenses, as I am self-employed. I opted for this solution instead of QuickBooks because it seemed less complicated and easier to use.
I try to download transactions from one particular (very big bank) and I always get the message "Sorry, we encounter an error. It's not your fault", Then whose fault it is"
As a software engineer myself, honestly this software is the worst one I have ever experienced. The first day when I tried to use it, it has a fundamental bug to get the basic jobs done.
That forced me to update, although I was basically happy with the 2007 version. I don't download from financial institutions so saw no need to update, until the multiple malfunctions occurred.
